Getting started

What HomeButlr is, and your first thing

What is HomeButlr?

I'm your AI personal assistant. I keep a record of the things in your home — appliances, gadgets, furniture, the car — with each one's bill, warranty, AMC and service history, and I remind you before a warranty or a service date runs out. Ask me about any of them, by voice or by typing.

How do I add my first thing?

The quickest way is its bill.

  1. Open HomeButlr and tap the + button at the bottom right (or Scan a bill on Home).
  2. Choose Scan a bill and photograph the bill, or pick it from your gallery or files.
  3. I read the brand, model, price and date. Check what I read and fix anything that is off.
  4. Tap Save. Nothing is saved until you confirm it.
  5. I then ask about the warranty: confirm the usual one for that kind of thing, or change it.
I don't have the bill. Can I still add it?

Yes, two ways.

  1. Open HomeButlr and tap the + button at the bottom right.
  2. Choose Scan a product sticker and photograph the plate with the model and serial number — usually on the back or the side of the appliance. Or choose Add manually and type the details yourself.
  3. Check what I read, then Save.

A thing added without a bill can have one attached later from its page, with Add a document.

Which kinds of things can I add?

Anything in a home: appliances, electronics, kitchen, furniture, vehicles, tools, garden, security and more. Each kind carries its own care steps and typical warranty, so pick the closest kind when you add.

Can I upload a bill instead of photographing it?

Yes.

  1. Open HomeButlr, tap the + button and choose Scan a bill.
  2. On the scan screen, instead of taking a photo, pick a photo from your gallery or a PDF from your files — an emailed bill or a retailer download works as well as a paper bill.
  3. Check what I read, then Save.

I read a PDF the same way I read a photo.

Can I add a whole room at once?

Yes, in four steps.

  1. Record a short video with your phone's own camera app — not HomeButlr. Hold the phone sideways, walk slowly, pause a second on each thing, and say the room's name and anything you know as you go: "kitchen, the LG fridge is from 2023". One video can cover several rooms.
  2. Open HomeButlr and tap the + button at the bottom right.
  3. Choose Scan your rooms and pick that video from your gallery.
  4. I list what I saw and heard, each thing with its own picture. Tick the ones you want and they are added as drafts.

There is a limit on how many room scans you can run in a month; the screen shows how many are left.

Does it work offline?

Scanning a bill and asking me a question need a connection. Your things and reminders are kept on our servers, so a fresh install on a new phone shows everything once you sign in.

Your things and papers

Bills, warranties, AMCs, documents

What if the scan reads my bill wrong?

Every scan shows you what I read before anything is saved. Tap any field to fix it. A field I'm unsure about is marked, so you know where to look.

Where do warranty dates come from?

From you. Bills rarely say how long the warranty is, so after a scan I ask: the usual warranty for that kind of thing is suggested, and you confirm or change it. If the thing is already out of warranty, say so and I'll keep it without reminders.

Can I attach an AMC, a manual or a warranty card?

Yes.

  1. Open HomeButlr, go to the Things tab and open the thing.
  2. Tap Add a document.
  3. Photograph it, or pick a photo, a PDF or a file, and choose what it is — bill, warranty card, AMC, manual or other.
  4. For an AMC, enter its end date. It then counts as cover, and I remind you before it runs out just as I do for a warranty.
How do I delete a thing?
  1. Open HomeButlr, go to the Things tab and open the thing.
  2. Choose Delete and confirm.

It goes to the bin for 7 days, so a mistake can be undone; after that it is gone for good.

What does "Wants a look" on Home mean?

A thing that is missing something I cannot remind you about: a warranty not set, no bill on file, no photo, or care paused. Tap the row to fill the gap.

What is a draft, and why does a thing say it needs details?

A thing that came from a room scan is a draft: I know what it is and where it is, but not its model, price or warranty. It works like any other thing — you can open it, ask me about it and set reminders.

To finish it:

  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Things tab. Tap the Needs details chip to see every draft together, or the line on Home that counts them.
  2. Open the thing.
  3. Do any one of these — tap Add a document and photograph its bill or product sticker, and I fill in the rest; or tap Edit and type what you know; or set its warranty.

Any of those ends the draft, and it becomes an ordinary thing.

Can I organise things by room, the way my house is laid out?

Yes. Every thing has a room: my bedroom, Adi's bedroom, kitchen, living room, garage, basement, guest room — whatever you call them. Pick a room you have used before or type a new one when you add or edit a thing. On the Things tab, the room chips at the top show one room at a time, and you can ask me "what's in the guest room".

How do I send a bill or a document to someone?
  1. Open HomeButlr, go to the Things tab and open the thing.
  2. Tap the document, then tap its file to open it.
  3. Tap Share and pick WhatsApp, email or any other app. The file itself is sent, not a link, so it opens for them any time.

To keep a copy on your phone, tap Download instead: on Android it goes to your Downloads folder, on iPhone choose Save to Files.

People who are members of your home on HomeButlr can already open every document themselves.

Reminders

When they arrive, and what to do with them

How do reminders work?

I watch every warranty, AMC and date you add, and tell you before it runs out. Care steps for your things come with their own reminders. Anything else, you set yourself.

When do reminders arrive?

A set number of days before the date, at your daily reminder time, and never inside your quiet hours. All three are yours to set in Settings → Notifications. A reminder you set yourself fires at the exact time you chose.

Can I set my own reminders?

Yes — for anything, once or repeating, assigned to yourself or to someone in your home. Tap + on the Reminders tab, or just tell me: "remind me to book the AC service on Friday at 5".

What do Done, Snooze and Dismiss do?

Done closes the reminder; for a warranty or AMC I then ask for the new dates. Snooze brings it back later. Dismiss closes it without a new cycle. Nothing is deleted; the History tab keeps a record.

A reminder didn't arrive. Why?

Check three things, in order.

  1. In your phone's settings, notifications are allowed for HomeButlr.
  2. In HomeButlr, Settings → Notifications: the time was not inside your quiet hours.
  3. Your phone's battery saver is not blocking the app in the background. On Android, also turn off Remove permissions and free up space (or Pause app activity if unused) on HomeButlr's page in your phone's settings — a few months without opening the app can switch reminders off.

The reminder is still on the Reminders tab either way.

Reminders come late on my OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Vivo or Xiaomi phone. Why?

These phones put apps to sleep to save battery, which can hold a reminder back until you open the app. Settings → Notifications → "Reminders arriving late?" shows the steps for your phone. In short: open HomeButlr in your phone's settings, tap Battery, and allow background activity. On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO also turn on Autostart; on Oppo and Realme, Allow auto launch. Then, back on HomeButlr's page, turn off Remove permissions and free up space.

What I can answer, and what I won't

What can I ask you?

Anything about your things: when a warranty ends, what is due this month, how to clean a filter, whether a model has a feature. Ask about the home as a whole or about one thing; I know which is which.

Will you guess a date or a price?

Never. A warranty date, a price or a serial number comes from your record or I say it isn't on file and offer to add it. Facts about a product in general I answer as best I can, and I can be wrong, so check before you act.

Will you help me with gas, electrical or structural work?

I will answer, and I will say first that it is a licensed professional's job. Gas connections, cylinders, regulators and AC refrigerant, high-voltage electrical and structural work all sit in that group. If you can smell gas, turn the regulator off, open the windows and call your supplier before anything else. I can be wrong, so take safety precautions before doing any pro-level work yourself.

Which languages can I talk to you in?

Many. Speak or type in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, English, a mix, and more Indian languages, and I answer in the same language, in its own script. Tap the microphone in the chat to speak; I read my reply back to you in that language. Dates and details come from your record whatever language you ask in.

Can I change your name and face?

Of course.

  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Under Your AI assistant, tap Name and look.
  3. Pick a face, type a name, and save.

The name and face you choose are used everywhere I appear.

Family and sharing

Members, roles, invitations, referrals

Can my family see my things?

Only the people you invite to your home. A member sees the home's things and reminders; an owner can also change the home, invite and remove people.

How do I invite someone?
  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Invite family.
  3. Send the private link by WhatsApp, email or message. It works for 7 days and for one person.
  4. They install HomeButlr, sign in, tap the link, and join your home.
How do I remove someone?
  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Your household, then the member's name.
  3. Choose Remove and confirm.

Only an owner can remove someone, and an owner cannot remove themselves without handing the home to another owner first.

What does a friend see when I refer them?

Your first name, so they know who invited them. You see that they joined, never what they add. Rewards, where offered, follow the rules shown on the Refer screen.

Your account and data

Privacy, export, deletion, complaints

Is my data safe?

Your bills and details are private to your home, stored encrypted in the European Union, and never sold or shared with advertisers. Our own support staff cannot open your documents. The Privacy policy in About says exactly what we keep and why.

How do I take a copy of everything?
  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Export my data. Only the home's owner sees it.
  3. Choose the spreadsheet or the full backup and tap Request an export.

Exports are prepared overnight, so it is ready the next morning. When its status says Ready to download, tap Download or Share on the same screen, or use the link I email you. It is kept for 7 days.

How do I delete my account?
  1. Open HomeButlr and go to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Delete my account and read what will go.
  3. Confirm with the one-time code I send you.

You have 7 days to change your mind — sign in again to cancel; after that everything is removed, and backup copies expire within 30 days. If you can no longer open the app, write to us from your registered email or phone and we do it for you.

I want to complain or withdraw consent.
