Care and service
Before the monsoon, before the summer
The seasonal care checklist for the inverter, the geyser, the AC and the purifier.
Most of a home's maintenance is not urgent until it is. The AC is fine until the first forty-degree afternoon, the geyser until the first cold morning, the inverter until the first long power cut. Each of those is exactly when every technician in the city is booked.
Why by season
The weather decides when each machine works hardest, so it is also the best clock for looking after it: a few weeks before its busy season, not during it. This list is short on purpose. Your machine's manual has the detail; this is the order to do things in.
Before the summer
| Thing | Job |
|---|---|
| AC | Clean the filters yourself; book the service before the first hot week, when technicians are still free. |
| AC outdoor unit | Clear leaves and anything stacked around it, so air can move. |
| Purifier | Check when the filters were last changed; summer means more water through it. |
| Inverter | Check the battery as its manual says, before the season you most need it. |
Before the monsoon
| Thing | Job |
|---|---|
| AC outdoor unit | Check the drain and the mounting; have a technician look at anything loose. |
| Inverter | Keep it dry and ventilated, away from any wall that seeps. |
| Purifier | Expect the filters to work harder if the supply water turns cloudy. |
| Water tank | Book a cleaning before the rains, not after. |
Before the winter
| Thing | Job |
|---|---|
| Geyser | Book its service before you need hot water every morning. |
| AC | Clean the filters before switching it off for the season. |

Setting it once
None of this is hard to remember once. It is hard to remember every year. The fix is to set each job as a repeating reminder the first time you do it. HomeButlr's new-reminder screen suggests a repeat for the usual ones — the AC service "every 6 months, before summer", the geyser service "every year, before winter", the inverter battery top-up "every 2 months" — and you can change any of them to suit your home.
For the purifier's filters, the right interval depends on your water; our note on the RO purifier has what two makers say.
In HomeButlr
Each thing's care steps come with their own reminders. Mark one done and it goes on that thing's service history.
Work involving gas, LPG, refrigerant, mains electricity or a building's structure must be done by a licensed professional. HomeButlr describes such work only so that you can talk to one.
